About Situational Awareness - Second Sight on Applied Science Live

Putting research into practice is hard. It is not often smooth, things can go wrong, and it takes a lot of work to make it go right. It is especially hard when we are trying to help public safety professionals protect themselves and the public.

In a recent podcast interview on Applied Science Live, I had in-depth discussion with the host (Alex Garinther) about the process of transitioning research to practice and our new Situational Awareness for Safety Course.

Through Situational Awareness for Safety, we are working to make the systematic observation techniques in our security and law enforcement courses available to anyone whose goal is to stay safe.

Applied Science Live

This science communication channel is run by Alex Garinther, a Ph.D. Candidate in Psychology at the University of Oregon. Alex and I have worked together over the past 4 to 5 years, and met when he took a summer internship at the US Naval Research Laboratory in 2016.

Through his podcast and blogsite, Alex interviews researchers, college professors, public servants, and others who work across "applied science” domains, and whose work is oriented toward benefiting society at large.
