Evidence disclosure in investigative interviews.

A research-based, instructor-led training that teaches interview planning, best practices in rapport-building, and how to effectively utilize evidence during investigative interviews.

Designed for public and private investigators, this course will provide a robust skill set to build confidence in the investigation process.

Level 1: Government-Researched Methodologies

Evidence Disclosure, Level 1 will provide learners with a working knowledge of the terms and concepts associated with research-based communication techniques and be able to:

  • Plan for an investigative interview and the use of evidence.

  • Place evidence on the Evidence Framing Matrix during the interview planning process so that the available evidence is sorted by disclosure priority.

  • Identify alternatives to disclosure methods for sensitive evidence during the interview planning process.

  • Learn rapport-building best practices.

IN-PERSON FORMAT

The program includes a mix of lectures and video-based exercises in a classroom setting. The course is taught by experienced instructors.

Level 2: Put Your Interview Skills to the Test

In Evidence Disclosure 2, trainees will plan for and conduct a mock interview with a role player in an investigative interview setting. By the end of the program, learners will deeply understand the terms and concepts associated with research-based communication techniques, and be able to:

  • Engage the subject using rapport-building best practices, explain the purpose of the interview, and establish ground rules for the interview without the use of evidence.

  • Elicit a "free narrative" from the subject of an investigative interview so that it occurs without interruption of subject, without the use of evidence, and uses productive prompts as necessary.

  • Use a set of evidence and associated free narrative to identify statement-evidence inconsistencies.

  • Assess subject credibility, formulate evidence disclosure strategies, and use evidence to challenge identified statement-evidence inconsistencies in accordance with the Evidence Framing Matrix.
